On their way

Gloomy conditions couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of the dedicated Variety Club Bashers who took off on Tuesday 13 August morning for a 10-day inland odyssey before arriving at the Gold Coast. “More than 300 participants, including Emerald locals, have been raising funds over the past year in support of Variety’s work with children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have a disability,” says Erin Lazarou, Variety’s fundraising events director. “And now we’re excited to hit the road for an unforgettable adventure.” The Bash will stop at several rural Queensland schools along the way, so participants can meet some of the children and families their fundraising supports. As of Thursday afternoon, the event had already raised $1.447 million. Emerald drivers Sean Heit and Brad Cislowski are among the Bash entrants. (Supplied)
